The Great Northeast Loop

August 24th, 2021 - October 28th, 2021

2769.9 mi 11.3 mi 81.9 mi 6.0 mi

What has four wheels and isn't a car? Greg and Camille on bikes. We trained, geared up, and set out to bike 2000+ miles from Delaware to Canada and back. This will be our first multi-day tour! We're each using two waterproof panniers on racks attached to our bikes. A small bag goes up front near the handlebars, and some stuff like camping gear goes right on the rack in waterproof sacks tied down with cargo nets. We are beyond excited and nervous for what's to come.

Keep up with our travels by viewing our progress here. You can click directly on the lines to see how many miles we travelled each day as well as our start and end points. The second map below features our stops along the way and the people we meet. If you're near one of our routes, let us know!

Southern Spokes

November 9th, 2021 - December 23rd, 2021

2038.2 mi 278.1 mi 208.4 mi 1276.6 mi

After 2 months and 2800 miles, we were finally home and ready for a nice long rest. Or were we? Less than a week later, we were back on the bikes and heading south. Follow along with the next leg of our adventure as we make our way to Key West, Florida!

Amish Adventure

May 28th, 2022 - May 30th, 2022

160.7 mi

We became big fans of Pennsylvania Bike Route L in 2020 when the low-traffic patterns of quarantine warranted plenty of trips along the Brandywine Creek. It's still an enjoyable ride so long as you don't get caught up in a heavy-traffic hour. We decided to explore west for a blend of agricultural scenery among Amish farms and the bustling cityscape of Lancaster, PA. Here's a look at our Memorial Day weekend tour in 2022.

Erie Expedition

June 20th, 2022 - June 24th, 2022

395.1 mi 299.2 mi

With Camille away on a short trip, Greg was excited to set out on a solo trip. Over 4 days, he followed the Erie Canalway Trail from Buffalo to Albany.

Quebec Quest

September 5th, 2022 - September 11th, 2022

363.1 mi 78.0 mi 56.1 mi

In 2021, we fell in love with Quebec's many safe and scenic bikeways. The following year, we eagerly planned our return for Labor Day week, biking from Quebec City to Ottawa.

Adirondack Arrival

October 25th, 2022 - October 29th, 2022

285.8 mi

On previous trips, we'd loved New York's Empire State Trail so on the way home from Cape Cod, we couldn't resist the opportunity to explore a bit more. Starting in Poughkeepsie where we'd left off on our big east coast trip, we set out north towards Albany and into the outskirts of the Adirondack Park. Camille had to work during the week, so the trip was a combination of solo rides by Greg and day loops as a pair.

Potomac Pedals

April 21st, 2023 - May 2nd, 2023

331.0 mi 17.1 mi

Eager to explore more of the wonderful biking around the Washington DC area, we took a short trip from DC to the mouth of the Potomac River and up the opposite bank. Camille still had to work during the week, so we spent days at coffee shops and libraries with biking in the morning, lunch and evening.

Conquering the Canyon

May 27th, 2023 - May 29th, 2023

152.6 mi

For Memorial Day weekend 2023, we took a brief excursion to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon (also known as Pine Creek Gorge).

Western Winds

July 22nd, 2023 - July 30th, 2023

277.3 mi 336.0 mi 5.8 mi 30.8 mi

Taking a peek at the version history of our planning sheet, we see we created the document on a Thursday. The first Thursday of this year in fact. About 28 weeks later (including a few rebookings...), the bikes and the bikers were on their way to start their western adventure.

You're probably reading this blog after having found out about our East Coast trip that began our love of bike touring in 2021. That sparked a life-time goal of biking the perimeter of the United States. This tour begins part 2 of what we anticipate to be a 4-segment journey around the contiguous country.

With both of us working remotely full-time now, we settled on the Pacific Coast route that would accommodate our new schedule. We're keeping Eastern Time working hours which means we'll be up by 5 AM PT on our laptops, hopefully wrapping up by 2 or 3 PM most days. That gives us the rest of the day until our bedtime ~8 PM PT for adventure. With cities spaced closer together (compared with the barren Midwest), we're confident we'll be able to support the digital connection we'll need.

[some ideas: gear list? bike boxes? folks we spent time with before we left? sad about not rolling right out the door?]
